FUNAAB Hosts Workshop on Hydroponic Technology Under EU-Sponsored AGRECOFARM Project
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently hosted a one-day workshop and training on Hydroponic Technology under the European Union-supported AGRECOFARM Project.
The event aimed to promote sustainable agriculture and develop a comprehensive two-year Master’s Degree Programme in Agroecology.
The workshop targeted academic staff, students, and agricultural extension professionals, focusing on soilless farming systems and vocational education. The initiative seeks to enhance Africa’s capacity to feed itself and the world through innovative agricultural practices.
The two-year Master’s programme will feature flexible curricula tailored to the interests of participating universities. At FUNAAB, the programme will include vocational education training modules for farmers, technicians, and graduates specializing in Agroecology.
The AGRECOFARM Project has established a greenhouse under its Agroecology Lab, which will serve both training and research purposes. The project is a collaborative effort between FUNAAB and nine other institutions from West Africa and Europe.
The university's commitment to the project was reaffirmed by the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), Prof. Adeboye Fafiolu. The initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 4, SDG 9, SDG 16, and SDG 17.
