University of Abuja Hosts MDCN Team for MBBS Programme Re-accreditation

The University of Abuja recently welcomed a team from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) led by Professor Fatima Kyari, a renowned professor of ophthalmology and MDCN registrar. The team visited the university for the re-accreditation of its MBBS programme.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, expressed the university's readiness for the accreditation process and confidence in meeting the required standards. Despite facing increased admissions due to students returning from crisis-affected countries, the College of Health Sciences has risen to the challenge.

The university currently has a 75-student quota and has graduated six sets of doctors since the 2005/2006 academic session. It now looks forward to receiving approval to expand its quota to 250. The MDCN team assured the university of a thorough, objective, and constructive assessment.

The accreditation process is a critical step in ensuring that medical programmes meet the required standards. The MDCN team will assess the university's facilities, human resources, and other requirements to determine its suitability for the expanded quota .
