UNN Professor, Ike Ernest Onyishi, Wins Vice-Chancellor's Research Leadership Prize At 55th Convocation

The University of Nigeria, UNN, has announced Professor Ike Ernest Onyishi as the winner of the prestigious Vice-Chancellor's Research Leadership Prize at the just concluded 55th Convocation Ceremony of the University.

The award recognises his exceptional contributions to research excellence, global scholarly impact, and his outstanding role in advancing the reputation and international visibility of the University of Nigeria.

Professor Onyishi, of the Department of Psychology, emerged winner of the prestigious award after a rigorous and transparent selection process. He joined the services of the University of Nigeria in 2002 and became a Professor of Industrial and Organisational Psychology in 2015. 

Today, he is recognised as one of Africa's leading scholars in his field, with over 150 publications, collaborations with more than 200 researchers worldwide, and publications in globally renowned journals.

A recipient of the prestigious Georg Forster Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, Professor Onyishi has also held research appointments in Germany and South Africa. He currently serves as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg.

In mentorship, he has supervised over 20 PhD graduates and more than 30 Master's students. He is currently the most-cited scholar in UNN's Faculty of the Social Sciences as well as the most-cited psychology researcher in Nigeria.

The University congratulated Professor Onyishi on the well-deserved recognition and noted that his achievements continue to inspire students and young academics across the institution.
