A remarkable display of academic excellence has earned the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), another national honour, as a 600-level student of the College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET), Ms. Kehinde Mercy, emerged First Runner-Up nationally in the VITAL 2 Project National Veterinary Students' Competition on Ruminant Vaccines and Vaccination in Nigeria.
Miss Kehinde's outstanding performance earned her a N500,000 cash prize, further highlighting FUNAAB's growing reputation for nurturing students whose knowledge, competence and innovation continue to make the University proud on national platforms.
The achievement was disclosed on October 8, 2026, when a delegation from COLVET, led by its Dean, Prof. Michael Takeet, visited the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, to formally present the award plaque and appreciate the University Management for its support.
Prof. Takeet recalled that the Vice-Chancellor had approved the student's participation in the national competition, stressing that her impressive performance had not only brought honour to herself but had also enhanced the visibility and reputation of FUNAAB. Miss Kehinde participated in one of the two phases of the competition and ultimately emerged First Runner-Up overall.
Presenting the plaque to the Vice-Chancellor, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Morenike Dipeolu, appreciated Prof. Kehinde for his sustained support for the College, noting that Management had consistently provided necessary backing for its academic and professional initiatives.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor described the feat as a source of immense joy and commended COLVET for consistently projecting FUNAAB positively. Prof. Kehinde expressed pride in the student's accomplishment, observing that the College had been productive and urged Miss Kehinde to sustain the tradition of excellence.

Prof. Kehinde assured the College of Management's continued support, while reminding the student and the delegation that the reward for hard work is more work.
The visit culminated in the formal presentation of the award plaque to the Vice-Chancellor, in celebration of another milestone in FUNAAB's continuing tradition of academic excellence and student achievement.
