The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and the Ondo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force have pledged closer collaboration to enhance security within and around the University community.
This commitment emerged during a working visit by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, to the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Commending FUTA students for their good conduct, the Commissioner noted that since assuming office, he had not encountered any security-related challenges linked to the institution. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and highlighted the need to prioritize the safety of students, especially those living off campus. He also disclosed plans to create a platform where stakeholders can regularly deliberate on improving security across the state.

Lawal further advised that the security framework already in place within FUTA should serve as a model for others, describing the university as a peaceful environment with no record of violence under his watch.
In her response, Prof. Oladiji expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that student safety remains a top priority for the University.
She stressed that security within the campus community demands sustained collaboration between the Students’ Union, management, and security agencies, particularly in safeguarding off-campus students.
The Vice-Chancellor assured both the Commissioner and the students that FUTA will continue to strengthen its measures to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer of Okuta Elerinla, CSP Adejoke Sulaimon, and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
