FUTA Vice-Chancellor Congratulates Professor Philip Oguntunde on Appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has formally congratulated Professor Philip Oguntunde, a distinguished scholar in Ecohydrology and Water Resources Engineering, on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University (EU), Ilara-Mokin, effective January 1, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has formally congratulated Professor Philip Oguntunde, a distinguished scholar in Ecohydrology and Water Resources Engineering, on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University (EU), Ilara-Mokin, effective January 1, 2026.
Professor Oladiji described the appointment as a reflection of FUTA’s legacy of producing academic leaders. “This appointment is a testament to the calibre of academia FUTA is endowed with,” she said. “Our university is renowned not only for producing value-adding graduates but also for providing leadership to sister higher institutions across Nigeria. FUTA has a significant number of staff leading universities, polytechnics, and other institutions in the country and globally.”
Highlighting Professor Oguntunde’s qualifications and experience, she added, “Having served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at FUTA, he is the right choice for Elizade University. I am confident that EU will experience unprecedented growth and development under his leadership. I wish him well and pray for heavenly wisdom to guide him in this new role.”

Born in 1969, Professor Oguntunde is a first-class graduate of FUTA and holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Hydrology and Water Engineering from the University of Bonn, Germany, along with advanced leadership training in higher education management. He became a Professor in 2014 and has since amassed over 100 publications in high-impact journals, authored multiple books and monographs, and supervised more than 15 Ph.D. and 20 Master’s graduates.
His research has attracted multi-million-naira and international grants, facilitating research, capacity building, and infrastructural development. He has held key leadership roles including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) for two terms, Member of FUTA Governing Council, and Director of the University Advancement Centre, while fostering strong local and international collaborations.
A Fellow of leading professional and scientific bodies in Nigeria and abroad, Professor Oguntunde’s appointment underscores Elizade University’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and world-class university governance.
