The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, October 20, 2025, held its 2025 Solemn Assembly — the first since the establishment of the specialized institution.

The event, which took place at the University Pavilion, Takeoff Campus, Ikot Abasi, was organized to dedicate the 2025/2026 Academic Year and the entire University to God.

In his opening address, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTIA welcomed all congregants on behalf of the University Management, giving glory to God for the institution’s establishment, steady growth, and ongoing development.

The Vice-Chancellor also read the first Bible passage taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14, while the Registrar, Mrs. Offiongiata Nkang, took the second reading from Psalm 103:1–7.

Delivering the sermon on the theme, “The Power of Thanksgiving,” the University Chaplain, Apostle Ukpono Eshiet, emphasized the importance of gratitude, urging members of the university community and Christians in general to always acknowledge God as the source of their existence. He stressed that a heart of thanksgiving attracts divine favour and inspires more blessings.

The atmosphere at the assembly was deeply spiritual and uplifting, as management staff, academic and non-academic members, and students participated in sessions of praise, worship, and intercessory prayers.

Special prayers were offered for various groups and stakeholders within and beyond the University. Pastor UbongAbasi Ossom led prayers for the University and its Management, Barr. (Mrs.) Mary Obot prayed for the Governing Council, while Dr. Okon Etim interceded for the host community of Ikot Abasi. The University Bursar, Dr. Mbobo Erasmus, prayed for Akwa Ibom State and its government, and the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Isaac Ayandele, led prayers for Nigeria and its leaders.

Also in attendance were the University Librarian, Professor Philip Akor, alongside other members of staff and students who joined in thanksgiving to God for FUTIA’s journey so far and the new academic session ahead.
