Ondo Education Commissioner Hails AFUED as One of Nigeria’s Top-Rated Institutions

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, has lauded the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, describing it as one of the top-rated tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, has lauded the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, describing it as one of the top-rated tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Prof. Ajibefun made the remark on Thursday, October 16, 2025, when the management team of AFUED, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, paid him a courtesy visit at the State Secretariat in Akure.

Describing the visit as a special occasion, the Commissioner commended AFUED for its long-standing contribution to educational advancement in Ondo State and the nation.“Adeyemi University of Education has been doing very well. It has successfully run degree programmes in collaboration with Ife for years, and now that it stands as an independent university, it is a positive and commendable development,” he stated.

Emphasizing the need for collaboration, Prof. Ajibefun said both the Ministry and the University share a common goal of improving education quality in the state. “We are the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, while you are a University of Education — our visions align. We must work together to produce high-quality manpower. Your graduates are doing well, and we are proud of that,” he added.

Highlighting areas for partnership, the Commissioner noted that the state has thousands of teachers requiring continuous training and retraining, adding that AFUED’s expertise would be invaluable in capacity building and professional development. “We also have students across the state that need quality input. Your demonstration schools are critical in this regard. The partnership will increase revenue, enhance facilities, and promote development,” he remarked.

In his response, AFUED Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, expressed appreciation to the state government for its consistent support, pledging the University’s continued commitment to educational development.

He acknowledged the challenges facing the newly upgraded institution, including infrastructure expansion, ICT enhancement, and improved welfare for students and staff. “We seek support in areas like classroom construction, laboratory upgrade, student accommodation, and research capacity development. Despite the challenges, we remain committed to our mission,” he said.

Professor Popoola also revealed plans to extend the University’s demonstration schools beyond Ondo and Akure to other local government areas in the state, seeking the Ministry’s collaboration to achieve this goal.

The courtesy visit was attended by top AFUED officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alao Ireti Folasade; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; and Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin. Senior staff from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology were also in attendance.
