FUTA Appoints Professor Peter Ayodeji As Dean Of School Of Postgraduate Studies

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Professor Sesan Peter Ayodeji as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) for a two-year tenure beginning August 1, 2026.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Professor Sesan Peter Ayodeji as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) for a two-year tenure beginning August 1, 2026.

The appointment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, followed Professor Ayodeji's election by his colleagues.

Professor Ayodeji, a Professor of Industrial and Production Engineering and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), assumes office with more than two decades of experience in teaching, research, administration and engineering practice.

A graduate of FUTA, he earned his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Mechanical and Production Engineering from the university. He joined the institution as a Graduate Assistant in 2000 and rose through the academic ranks to become a Professor in 2019.

Before his appointment, Professor Ayodeji served as Sub-Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, where he played a key role in strengthening postgraduate administration and improving academic processes. His contributions earned him formal recognition for the transformation recorded by the school during his tenure.

He also served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at Achievers University, Owo, from 2021 to 2024, where he was credited with promoting academic growth and institutional development.

A registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Professor Ayodeji has built a strong research profile in manufacturing systems, automation, industrial engineering, ergonomics, production systems and engineering design.

His academic achievements include numerous peer-reviewed publications, patented inventions, research grants and innovative technologies that have attracted national and international recognition.

Among his notable honours are the 2025 FUTA Best Inventor of the Year Excellence and Productivity Award and the 2022 Nigeria Prize for Science, jointly awarded by Nigeria LNG Limited. He has also secured several TETFund and institutional research grants supporting engineering research and technological innovation.

Professor Ayodeji has supervised numerous postgraduate diploma, master's and doctoral students and has served as an external examiner and assessor for universities within Nigeria and abroad, contributing significantly to postgraduate education and research capacity development.

As Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, he is expected to provide strategic leadership in postgraduate education, research development, quality assurance, innovation and academic collaborations.

The university expressed confidence that his blend of academic excellence, research achievements and administrative experience will strengthen postgraduate education, deepen research excellence, promote innovation and enhance the global competitiveness of FUTA's School of Postgraduate Studies.
