Federal Polytechnic Of Oil And Gas Bonny Seeks Stronger Partnership With Bonny LGA On Development Initiatives
The Governing Council Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, alongside the management team led by the Rector, Dr Victor Okolobah, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Engineer Abinye Blessing Pepple, to strengthen collaboration between the institution and its host community.

The Governing Council Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, alongside the management team led by the Rector, Dr Victor Okolobah, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Engineer Abinye Blessing Pepple, to strengthen collaboration between the institution and its host community.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, was aimed at fostering stronger community relations, promoting infrastructural development, improving campus security and student welfare, and exploring areas of partnership for sustainable development.
Senator Sekibo noted that effective institutional growth requires strong collaboration between academic institutions, government authorities and community stakeholders. He said such partnerships would help the polytechnic align its programmes with local workforce needs, contribute to community development and secure greater support from its host environment.
During the meeting, Senator Sekibo commended the Bonny Local Government Chairman for his leadership and efforts in maintaining peace on Bonny Island, which has enabled staff and students of the polytechnic to operate in a secure environment.
He also appreciated the local government for granting the institution access to the stadium for sporting activities and presented several requests aimed at strengthening the relationship between the polytechnic and the council.
The requests include:

Upgrading the JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre from its current 150-computer capacity to 250 systems.

Reviving an earlier partnership agreement to train Bonny youths during long vacation periods.

Providing skills training opportunities for youths in areas such as scaffolding, welding, baking and other vocational disciplines.

Sponsoring Bonny indigenes to pursue National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes at the polytechnic through scholarship support.

Supporting the polytechnic’s request for land to enable it attract developmental projects from government ministries, departments and agencies.
Responding, Engineer Abinye Blessing Pepple thanked the polytechnic leadership for the visit and pledged his commitment to supporting initiatives that would benefit the institution and the Bonny community.
The council chairman immediately approved the upgrade of the JAMB CBT centre from 150 to 250 computer systems and directed the Rector to commence the necessary formal processes for implementation.
The engagement highlights the commitment of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, towards strengthening town-and-gown relationships, expanding opportunities for youths and promoting sustainable institutional development.
