JSUMAHS Seeks NELFUND Partnership to Expand Students' Access to Education Loans
The Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences (JSUMAHS), Majia, has initiated engagement with the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to explore opportunities for its students to benefit from Federal Government's student loan scheme.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani, led university's Principal Officers on a familiarisation visit to NELFUND in Abuja on Monday, October 19, 2026, to seek guidance on requirements for institutional registration and facilitate eligible students' access.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, NELFUND, Mr. Aliyu Aliyu Muhammad.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Sani said management was at the Fund to establish institutional engagement and obtain necessary information on procedures for registering JSUMAHS on NELFUND platform. He emphasised importance of understanding requirements to enable eligible students access financial support.

In his remarks, Mr. Muhammad welcomed delegation and commended Jigawa State Government for maintaining relatively low tuition fees across tertiary institutions.
He explained that NELFUND operates two platforms — School-Based System (SBS) and Student Application System — which serve different functions in administering scheme.
The Director advised university to establish dedicated NELFUND office to coordinate process, guide students through application requirements and ensure effective communication between institution and Fund.
He further explained that university must complete its registration before students can apply, and identified JAMB admission records and National Identification Number (NIN) as important requirements.
Reaffirming Fund's commitment to expanding access to education, Mr. Muhammad stated that NELFUND operates transparent system designed to make educational financing accessible.
"The purpose of NELFUND is to give free access to everybody. The system is transparent," he said.
The visit represents important step in JSUMAHS's efforts to explore opportunities to ease financial burden of higher education on eligible students.
