Maduka University Debunks Claims of Bandit Settlements Near Campus, Clarifies Circumstances Surrounding Nursing Student’s Death

Maduka University has dismissed as false and misleading a viral video alleging the existence of Fulani bandit settlements near its campus, describing the claims as a recycled attempt by detractors to instill fear among prospective students, parents, and the wider public.

In a statement issued by the University Management, the institution clarified that the video, which has resurfaced after circulating intermittently over the past three years, inaccurately portrays the security situation around the university. Management categorically stated that no criminal or bandit settlements exist in the vicinity of the campus and that the institution remains safe, secure, and fully operational.

According to the statement, Maduka University is protected by appropriate security architecture and maintains active collaboration with relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors. The University urged the public to disregard the video in its entirety, describing it as a deliberate effort to demarket the institution through misinformation.

“The campus remains peaceful and conducive for learning. Students and staff continue their academic and administrative activities without disruption,” the statement noted, while calling on members of the public to rely only on verified information disseminated through official university channels.

University Clarifies Reports on Death of Nursing Student

Management also addressed circulating online reports concerning the death of a Nursing student of the University, describing many of the narratives as false, damaging, and inconsistent with the facts.

According to the University, the student was brought to the Maduka University Medical Centre in an already critical condition at about 9:30 p.m. through the institution’s hospital ambulance, contrary to claims that she arrived on foot or was brought by friends. Management further clarified that at no time was diclofenac injection administered to the student, dismissing such claims as entirely untrue.

Upon arrival, the doctor on duty reportedly carried out an immediate clinical evaluation, conducted necessary investigations, and administered appropriate treatment in line with established emergency-care protocols. The student initially responded to treatment and was placed under close observation with continuous nursing care throughout the night.

However, Management explained that at about 4:00 a.m., the student’s condition deteriorated suddenly. Nurses on duty promptly alerted the attending doctor, and she was immediately transferred via the University’s 24-hour ambulance service to another hospital for advanced emergency care.

The University also refuted claims that a doctor personally drove the ambulance, stating that the transfer was handled by trained ambulance personnel in line with standard medical practice.

Management disclosed that the student had a concealed chronic medical condition that had not been previously disclosed, which significantly contributed to the complications that followed.

While expressing deep sympathy to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, the University rejected allegations of negligence, wrong medication, or abandonment, insisting that its medical team acted professionally and promptly throughout the emergency.

“We share in the pain of losing a young and promising student. However, the false narratives being circulated do not reflect the facts or the efforts made by our medical personnel,” the statement said.

Maduka University reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, safety, and healthcare of its students and staff, noting that it remains open to cooperation with the family and relevant authorities. Management also condemned what it described as the exploitation of a tragic incident to further negative campaigns against the institution.

The statement concluded with assurances that the University would continue to strengthen its systems and services, while calling for restraint, empathy, and responsible communication in the face of sensitive matters.
