Gov. Uba Sani Approves 2025 FGN ASUU Salary Agreement for KASU

The Kaduna State Government has approved the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria Academic Staff Union of Universities, FGN ASUU, Salary Agreement for academic staff of Kaduna State University, KASU, with the new salary structure taking effect from the October 2026 salary. 

The approval is expected to bring relief to academic staff and further strengthen the state government’s efforts to improve the welfare and working conditions of university lecturers.

The decision followed the report and recommendations of a nine-member Government KASU ASUU Negotiation Committee constituted by Governor Uba Sani to consider the demands of the union and develop a fair and sustainable framework for implementing the agreement. 

The approved package provides for the revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, CONUASS, Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, CATA, and other applicable salary adjustments and allowances.

Commissioner for Education and Chairman of the nine-member Negotiation Committee, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, said the approval reflected Governor Uba Sani’s sustained commitment to education and human capital development. 

He noted that at least 25 percent of the state’s annual budget has been allocated to education under the administration, alongside interventions including the construction and renovation of 3,267 classrooms, provision of 1,194 toilets and 90 boreholes, and distribution of 57,777 learners’ and teachers’ furniture. 

The government has also approved a 50 percent reduction in tertiary education fees and extended the retirement age for school teachers from 60 to 65 years.

Professor Sambo said the administration’s education reforms had also produced significant progress in tackling the out of school children crisis, with more than 300,000 children brought back into education from an estimated inherited population of over 500,000 in 2023. 

He added that Kaduna’s household mapping approach had attracted federal attention, while the state’s vocational training model, which has produced 4,050 graduates, had equally attracted interest from the Federal Ministry of Education, which requested the state’s technical and vocational training manuals for reference at the national level.

The government, while appreciating KASU management, ASUU and other stakeholders for their patience and constructive engagement during the negotiations, called on ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT to continue to embrace dialogue in resolving differences. 

It also urged KASU academic staff to reciprocate the improved welfare package through stronger teaching, research, innovation and improved student outcomes, stressing that the university must strive to meet international standards and improve its visibility in global rankings, including the Times Higher Education rankings. 

Professor Sambo said the approval should be seen as an investment in people, a vote of confidence in KASU and a renewed commitment to building a peaceful, competitive and accountable university system fit for the demands of the 21st century.
