JAMB has identified three major reasons candidates may not find their names on the National Matriculation List and advised students to verify their admission records.
In an explainer released on Friday, JAMB said candidates may be missing from the list because their admission has not been properly processed, their institutions have not forwarded verified matriculation details, or they have failed to print their original JAMB result slip and admission letter.
The Board particularly advised candidates whose status shows “not admitted” to return to their institutions and ensure that their admission is properly processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Institutions are also expected to forward verified matriculation information to JAMB.
JAMB further directed candidates who have not printed their original result slip and admission letter to visit a JAMB office or approved Computer-Based Test centre to obtain the documents.
The development is important because admission into a tertiary institution should not end with receiving an offer from a university, polytechnic or college. Candidates must ensure that their admission is properly recognised within the national admission system.
The situation also exposes a recurring weakness in Nigeria’s admission process: many students do not fully understand the administrative requirements attached to their admission until they encounter problems later.
Candidates should therefore verify their admission status, accept admission where required, ensure their institution processes their records through JAMB CAPS and keep all relevant admission documents.
For students planning to participate in the National Youth Service Corps or other processes requiring recognised tertiary admission, maintaining accurate admission records is particularly important.
JAMB’s latest clarification should consequently be treated not merely as an announcement, but as a warning to students: an admission offer is only the beginning; candidates must ensure that every official record supporting that admission is correctly processed and verifiable.
