Godfrey Okoye University has spotlighted one of its most accomplished alumni, Ihuoma MaryJane Ihenacho, a native of Umuapu in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area, whose extraordinary achievements continue to inspire the academic community and beyond.
As the institution's trailblazing first student to graduate with a First Class from the Faculty of Law, Ihuoma held that distinction as the sole recipient for two consecutive years, embodying the university's ethos of academic excellence and leadership.
During her undergraduate years, Ihuoma was a dynamic campus figure, serving as the inaugural Vice President of her department, President of the St. Anthony Group, and an active participant in the Vice Chancellor's Debate Club and the Lay Readers Association at the Ominum Santorum Chaplaincy. Her international prowess shone through as a two-time team leader at the Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenges in Miami and Geneva, where her teams secured awards for Best Oral Presentation and Best Teamwork, showcasing her strategic acumen on a global stage.
Ihuoma's success extended seamlessly to the Nigerian Law School, where she emerged as a First Class graduate, one of only two from Godfrey Okoye University's delegation of 50 students. She claimed second place in the Lagos Campus Prebar MCQ exams among 1,500 participants and ranked 11th nationwide out of 7,134 students, landing in the top 0.2% of her class. As a budding scholar, she co-authored a paper in the ENBAR Law Journal (Vol. 3) titled "Governor’s Power of Revocation under Nigerian Law," further cementing her intellectual contributions.
Her trailblazing path has been recognized with the Shell SPDC JV Scholarship, making her the first recipient from the Faculty of Law. Today, Ihuoma pursues a Master's in Technology Law at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, supported by the NTU Excellence Scholarship, marking her as the first Faculty of Law student to study abroad on scholarship.
Among her notable achievements are third place in the Criminal Moot and Mock Trial Competition, highlighting her multifaceted talents in legal advocacy and academics. Ihuoma's story of determination, excellence, and global impact serves as a beacon for current students and alumni alike, reflecting Godfrey Okoye University's commitment to nurturing leaders with knowledge, character, and resilience. Congratulations to Ihuoma MaryJane Ihenacho for continuing to inspire generations.
