Governor Sanwo-Olu Commissions Ultramodern Geoscience Centre of Excellence at UNILAG
In a major boost for Earth Science education in Nigeria, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, CON, has officially commissioned the state-of-the-art Geosciences Building at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule Akibu, the Governor inaugurated the facility alongside the Group Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Mr. Ronald Adams, and executives from NNPC Limited and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, expressed profound gratitude to SNEPCo for the donation. She noted that while the project spanned several university administrations, the management is committed to ensuring the facility remains a treasure for research and learning for generations to come.
A Historic Journey: Professor Ayolabi Elijah, Vice-Chancellor of Mountain Top University, shared the project's 23-year history, detailing its conception in 2003 and the long-standing efforts to secure SNEPCo funding.
Following the ribbon-cutting, the Vice-Chancellor led guests on a guided tour of the laboratories, which are expected to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry-standard practical application.
