Governor Soludo Approves Full Implementation of 2025 FG-ASUU Agreement for COOU Staff

Anambra State Governor and Visitor to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/Academic Staff Union of Universities (FG-ASUU) agreement for staff of the institution, effective January 2027.

Anambra State Governor and Visitor to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/Academic Staff Union of Universities (FG-ASUU) agreement for staff of the institution, effective January 2027.

The approval, which will take effect in the 2027 fiscal year, is part of the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare in the state.

The development was formally communicated to the Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, by the Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Professor Peter Onwualu, on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

Reacting to the approval, Omenugha expressed gratitude to the governor on behalf of the university management, Senate, staff and students, describing him as a dependable leader who had fulfilled his earlier assurances on the matter.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the leadership and members of the university’s labour unions for their understanding and responsible engagement with the university management and Governing Council.

She noted that the constructive approach adopted by the parties had contributed to an amicable resolution without resorting to industrial action that could disrupt academic activities and affect the university community.

Omenugha assured the Anambra State Government that the university would reciprocate the gesture by intensifying efforts to position COOU as an institution of global excellence.

The approval marks a significant development in the university’s staff welfare arrangements, with implementation scheduled to commence in January 2027.
