Indian Professor Commends MAU VC on Infrastructure, Explores Partnership with Indian Universities

The Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, has received Prof. Rashid Husain, Dean, Faculty of Computing, Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, during a courtesy visit to his office.

Prof. Husain, an Indian national and Professor of Information Technology, was in the university as an external examiner in the Department of Information Technology for the examination of postgraduate students. He is the first foreign national to serve as an external examiner in the department.

He was introduced to the Vice-Chancellor by Dr. Muhammad Abubakar, Coordinator of the Computer-Based Test Centre, MAU, who briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of his visit.

During the interaction, Prof. Husain expressed satisfaction with the academic standards and facilities in the university. He commended the Vice-Chancellor for the infrastructural development across the institution, particularly the ICT infrastructure and solar power facilities.

Discussions also focused on international academic collaboration, with Prof. Husain expressing willingness to facilitate partnerships between MAU and selected universities in India, especially in agriculture and computing.

A key area of interest identified is smart agriculture, through a proposed collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture and computing disciplines in the university. The partnership is expected to create opportunities for joint research, academic exchange, innovation, capacity building and the application of technology to agricultural development.

Prof. Husain thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to serve as external examiner and for the warm reception.

Responding, Prof. Umar appreciated Prof. Husain for accepting to serve as external examiner and for his interest in promoting international collaboration with MAU. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to partnering with reputable institutions and experts within and outside Nigeria to advance teaching, research, innovation and institutional development.
