Kano State Polytechnic Inducts Second Cohort of TVET Trainees, Urges Focus on Skills for Career Growth
Kano State Polytechnic, KSP, has officially inducted the second cohort of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET, trainees, marking the commencement of the Federal Government’s skills development programme at its Skills Development Centre, SDC.
The orientation and induction ceremony held on Monday, June 29, 2026, welcomed trainees who will undergo competency-based training in Mechatronics, Fabrication, ICT, Fashion and Textile, Printing, and Entrepreneurship.
Representing the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, the Director of Academic Planning, Research and Innovation, Engr. Dr. Comrade Ibrahim Usman Aikawa, congratulated the trainees on their selection. He described them as privileged to train at KSP’s well-equipped SDC and charged them to remain focused, embrace practical learning, and distinguish themselves as ambassadors of a new era of technical education at the Polytechnic.

In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the Registrar, Mukhtar Ibrahim Bello, Falakin Kano, by the Deputy Registrar, Human Resource, Malam Rabi’u Magaji Garun-Danga, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s policy on TVET. He noted that the programme would equip youth with practical skills for self-reliance, job creation, and the reduction of social vices, and urged trainees to participate actively to maximise the opportunity.
Giving an overview of the programme, Engr. Zainul-Abideen Abbati explained that the initiative provides fully funded, hands-on training delivered in combined English and Hausa, with a monthly stipend for participants. He added that the programme runs six-month and one-year training tracks and will culminate in nationally recognised certification upon completion.
Also speaking, the Director of the Skills Development Centre, Dr. Muhammad Idris Kayare, QAA, IQAM, RPL, outlined the Centre’s mandate, while directors of other training centres highlighted available opportunities across the Polytechnic.
