KIU Receives RRBN for Medical Radiography Accreditation

Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) has received a team from the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) led by its Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Idris Garba, for assessment and accreditation exercise of University's Department of Medical Radiography.

Speaking during visit, Dr. Garba expressed appreciation to Management of Kashim Ibrahim University for warm reception and hospitality accorded team since arrival.

He explained Bachelor of Radiography programme falls within regulatory mandate of Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, adding Board routinely visits universities offering Radiography programmes to assess available resources, facilities and level of preparedness.

According to him, following accreditation exercise and upon meeting required standards, students of programme would be indexed at 300 level. He added students would subsequently sit for first professional examination, followed by second professional examination in final year, before successful graduates are inducted into profession as registered radiographers.

Dr. Garba stressed importance of accreditation exercise, noting ultimate objective is to ensure universities produce competent and professionally equipped radiographers capable of competing effectively both locally and internationally.

He further explained Radiography is medical profession that requires strong regulatory framework to ensure practitioners acquire necessary knowledge, skills and competence in use of medical equipment and production of quality diagnostic images that support medical doctors in making accurate diagnoses and determining appropriate treatment.

RRBN Registrar therefore sought permission and support of Vice-Chancellor to enable team to proceed with exercise and inspect University's facilities and level of preparedness for running Radiography programme.

Responding, Vice-Chancellor Kashim Ibrahim University, Prof. Babagana Gutti, welcomed Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of RRBN and members of team to Maiduguri and Kashim Ibrahim University.

Prof. Gutti described visit as opportunity for constructive engagement, professional assessment and learning. He acknowledged important role of RRBN in ensuring Radiography programmes in Nigerian universities meet required professional and regulatory standards.

Vice-Chancellor assured team of University's full cooperation and support throughout accreditation exercise.

"We welcome your observations, recommendations and professional guidance, and we look forward to a successful accreditation exercise," Prof. Gutti stated.

Accreditation exercise is expected to provide opportunity for RRBN team to assess University's facilities, human resources, equipment and other requirements necessary for effective implementation of Medical Radiography programme.
