Lagos State Government has released the approved 2026/2027 harmonised academic calendar for all public and private primary and secondary schools. 

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has released the approved 2026/2027 Harmonised Academic Calendar for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state. The calendar is designed to ensure a uniform academic schedule for schools while promoting effective planning for students, parents, teachers, and school administrators.

According to the approved calendar, the new academic session will begin with Staff Professional Development (SPD) between Monday, September 7 and Friday, September 11, 2026, during which schools are expected to choose any two days for teacher training.

First Term

Students will resume for the first term on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The first half of the term will run from September 14 to October 30, 2026, followed by Open Day activities on:

Thursday, October 29, 2026 (Primary Schools)

Friday, October 30, 2026 (Secondary Schools)

A mid-term break is scheduled for November 2 to November 6, 2026, while the second half of the term will continue from November 9 to December 18, 2026.

Schools will proceed on first-term vacation from December 21, 2026, to January 8, 2027.

The first term provides 64 instructional days.

Second Term

The second term begins on Monday, January 11, 2027.

The first half of the term runs until February 19, 2027, with Open Day holding on:

Thursday, February 18, 2027 (Primary Schools)

Friday, February 19, 2027 (Secondary Schools)

A mid-term break will take place from February 22 to February 26, 2027, before classes resume from March 1 to April 16, 2027.

Second-term vacation is fixed for April 19 to April 30, 2027.

The second term consists of 61 instructional days.

Third Term

Schools will resume for the final term on Monday, May 3, 2027.

The first half of the term will run until June 11, 2027, followed by Open Day on:

Thursday, June 10, 2027 (Primary Schools)

Friday, June 11, 2027 (Secondary Schools)

A mid-term break is scheduled from June 14 to June 18, 2027, while the second half of the term runs from June 21 to July 30, 2027.

The 2026/2027 academic session officially ends on Friday, July 30, 2027, while the long vacation begins on Monday, August 2, 2027.

The third term comprises 57 instructional days.

The harmonised calendar provides a total of 182 instructional days across the three terms, ensuring compliance with national education standards while giving schools a clear framework for academic activities throughout the session. The government also reminded schools that the observance of public holidays remains subject to Federal Government announcements, while Open Day activities are mandatory although schools may determine their preferred timing.
