LASUED Conducts 2026 Teaching Practice Orientation for 300 and 400-Level Students

As part of preparations for the forthcoming Teaching Practice exercise, the Directorate of Teaching Practice, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), organized a one-day orientation for 300 and 400-level students. The theme was: "Ethics and Code of Conduct for Teachers During Teaching Practice."

The programme was held on Wednesday, 16th September, 2026, at Prof. A.O.K. Noah Hall, Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus, with the aim of preparing students for a successful field experience.

Declaring the programme open, the Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, ably represented by the Acting Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Dawodu Rasheed A., enjoined students to be good ambassadors of the University and give the best performance in their various schools of posting. He noted that Teaching Practice is an integral and compulsory part of their programme and can be carried over like any other course. He wished them a successful and rewarding experience.

In her keynote address, the Director, Directorate of Teaching Practice, Dr Akinkuotu Foluke Abimbola, charged students to uphold the ethics and code of conduct of the profession. She stated that the exercise is not merely a formality but an indispensable foundational pillar for their journey ahead.

She urged students to reflect on the privilege and responsibility before them as prospective architects of minds, sculptors of character, and guides to future generations. She added that they should approach the journey with enthusiasm and project the good image of LASUED as pacesetters.

She further advised students not to engage in any form of harassment, join illegal platforms, or engage in other acts capable of hindering a successful exercise. She stressed that student-teachers are expected to be punctual, decently dressed, submissive to school authorities, and diligent in lesson preparation with adequate instructional materials.

The facilitator, Prof. Oluwabunmi Adedina of the Department of Theatre Arts, sensitized students on essential materials required for Teaching Practice and enlightened them on ethical expectations and acts of misconduct. She charged the student-teachers to uphold ethics and the professional code of conduct.

According to her, ethics provides the moral compass for teachers while the code of conduct provides practical guidance for practice.

She emphasized the need to maintain professional boundaries with learners, avoid inappropriate relationships and private communication, and use social media responsibly by not sharing photos, videos, or confidential information about learners and schools.

She concluded that effective teaching goes beyond knowledge and skills, noting that "Knowledge, Skills, Character and Ethical Responsibility make a Professional Practice."

It is worth noting that a similar programme was organized for both students in the aforementioned levels and supervisors at Odo-Noforija Epe Campus of the university on Wednesday, 9th September and Thursday, 10th September, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall and Lecture Theatre III of the campus, respectively.
