MAAUN Mass Communication Students Launch Maiden Edition of Departmental Newspaper, Names it "MAAUN Chronicles"

Mass Communication students at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) launched the maiden edition of their newspaper, MAAUN Chronicles, on Wednesday. The publication, produced by the Class of 2021, was unveiled by the university’s founder, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who purchased copies for N2 million.

Mass Communication students of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) have launched the maiden edition of their departmental newspaper, MAAUN Chronicles, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.

The newspaper, produced by the final-year students of the Class of 2021, was officially launched on Wednesday by the Founder of MAAUN, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo. In a strong show of support, Prof. Gwarzo purchased copies of the publication for N2 million.

Addressing the students at the event, Prof. Gwarzo encouraged them to work diligently to secure opportunities with prestigious international media organizations such as BBC and CNN. He also urged them to uphold professional journalism ethics and avoid sensationalism, blackmail, or misuse of social media.

"You need to work hard so that we can push some of you to work with international media organizations like BBC, CNN, and other international media platforms," he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Saka Raji, a lecturer in the department, praised the students for their commitment to the project, highlighting that it was accomplished under the guidance of faculty members. He expressed optimism that the university would soon establish its own radio station for Mass Communication students.

MAAUN President, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, described the launch as a major achievement, assuring that the university is working toward establishing both radio and television stations to further enhance practical learning for students in the field.

The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Ahmad Maigari Ibrahim, who also serves as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, commended both students and faculty members for their efforts in bringing the newspaper to fruition.

The launch event was graced by top management staff, including the Vice President of Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, and the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Nura Yaro, among others.

With the unveiling of MAAUN Chronicles, the students have taken a bold step in practical journalism, setting the stage for greater advancements in media training at the institution.
