The Nigeria Police Academy has emerged winner of the debate category at the 2026 RIL Campus Crown Awards held in Kano State, in a commanding display of intellectual depth and public speaking excellence by its cadets.

The victory underscores the growing emphasis on academic strength, critical thinking, and leadership development among cadets, positioning future police officers as both operationally skilled and intellectually prepared for national service.

The RIL Campus Crown Awards is an initiative designed to provide tertiary institution students in Kano State with a platform to showcase talents through leadership debates and sports competitions. The programme brings together students from various higher institutions across the state to promote teamwork, critical reasoning, and responsible citizenship.

In the competition, the Nigeria Police Academy team faced strong opposition from students of other universities and tertiary institutions across Kano State before securing the top position.

The Academy’s 24th Commandant, AIG Patrick A. Atayero, MSc (UK), MBA (USA), psc, mspsp, received the winning cadets and commended them for their outstanding performance. He praised their commitment, discipline, and effort in projecting the image of the institution positively.

He also urged other cadets to intensify their academic and personal development, assuring them of the Academy’s continued support in their growth and training.

AIG Atayero reaffirmed his commitment to building a modern, professional, and career-oriented institution, noting that the achievement aligns with the reform-driven vision of the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, who is focused on strengthening the Nigeria Police Force through improved education and leadership training.

The Commandant also reiterated that the victory reflects the institution’s broader mission of producing well-rounded officers equipped for modern security challenges.
