The management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on Monday, July 18, 2022, organised a mock accreditation exercise at its Benin Study Centre in order to test run the preparedness of the centre to host the National Universities Commission (NUC) as the apex regulatory body of university education in Nigeria gets set to carry out accreditation of various programmes at the study centre, Myschoolnews.ng gathered.

The 8member mock accreditation team led by the dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Moses Shuaibu, was received by the principal assistant registrar of the centre, Mr. Bayour Emmanuel, who acted on behalf of the centre director, Benin Study Centre, Prof. Olubiyi Adewale (currently on an international assignment).

Emmanuel led the team on facility tour of the centre, along with the deputy bursar, Mr. Emezouke Mpamaugo and other senior staff of the centre.

Shuaibu and members of his team conducted a close scrutiny of students’ files and other administrative and academic records at the departments of Computer Science, Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, Criminology and Security Studies as well as Nursing Science.

The team also inspected necessary facilities available at the centre vis-a-vis those required by the NUC for seamless accreditation and made recommendations for further installation of those not available and for the procurement of necessary equipment.

Emmanuel appreciated the presence of the team at Benin Centre and assured that efforts would be made to ensure that everything is put in place in preparation for the NUC accreditation visit; adding that all staff of the centre were upbeat and ready for the litmus test ahead as all identified lapses would be effectively plucked up.

It would be recalled that NOUN, the first and only mono-modal Open and Distance Learning (ODL) university in Nigeria and a foremost one in Africa, presents its academic courses and programmes from time to time to the NUC for accreditation for the purposes of quality assurance.
