OGITECH Engineering School Launches Bi-Monthly Lecture to Drive Industrial Self-Reliance

The School of Engineering Technology (SET) at Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, recorded a major academic milestone on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, with the successful launch of its bi-monthly lecture series.

The lecture aligns with the human capital development vision of the Rector of OGITECH, Dr Abiodun Oluseye, and is aimed at elevating academic standards and inspiring homegrown engineering innovation.

Held at the Institute’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hall, the event attracted a distinguished audience comprising Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, Directors, staff and students.

The keynote address was delivered by Engr Kaffo Omoniyi Paul, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Speaking on the topic, “Optimising Material Selection and Metal Machining for Nigerian Industrial Performance and Self-Reliance,” Engr Kaffo emphasised the critical need for precise material selection to boost domestic industrial output and reduce reliance on foreign innovations.

Engr Kaffo urged the Federal Government to overhaul the national education curriculum to better harness annual student research.

He noted that leveraging academic research alongside Nigeria’s vast natural resources would help address pressing societal challenges and improve the quality of life.

The Dean of SET and host of the event, Engr Dr Dauda Adekunle Folarin, commended the Institute’s Management under Dr Oluseye for fostering professional development and supporting staff aspirations.

Highlighting the scope of the initiative, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Engr Ibiyemi Olukemi Ifeka, explained that the bi-monthly platform was established to encourage continuous knowledge sharing, exchange of practical experience and technological advancement between academics and industry experts.

The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the Director of the Robotics and Innovation Centre, Engr Osamonyi Ighodalo Omofuma.

He commended the Dean for his visionary leadership and expressed gratitude to the Rector, describing his dedicated stewardship as transformative for the Institute.
