OGITECH Moves to Strengthen Research and Publication Standards

The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, has charged lecturers of the institution to uphold integrity and excellence in academic research, writing and publication.

Dr. Oluseye gave the charge on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Prince Dapo Twins Theater Lecture Hall during a workshop organised by the School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS) for its teaching staff.

The workshop, themed “Academic Paper Writing and Publication and Criteria for Promotion,” was aimed at strengthening research, academic writing and publication practices among lecturers.

The Rector emphasised that research should not be treated merely as a requirement for promotion but as a genuine contribution to the global body of knowledge.

He described writing as a tool for documenting innovation and publication as a primary avenue for translating research into solutions to practical problems.

Dr. Oluseye condemned the practice of publishing without conducting rigorous research, describing it as “academic fraud.” He also warned against presenting research work without actually carrying out the required research.

The Rector urged participants to use the workshop to strengthen their research and writing skills, revolutionise the research culture at OGITECH and promote a stronger culture of academic integrity within the institution.

In his welcome address, the convener and Dean of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Dr. Olayode Fatoki, expressed appreciation to the Rector for his support towards making the workshop a reality.

Dr. Fatoki encouraged participants to engage in robust interactions during the programme to strengthen the institution’s overall research output. He also urged them to actively engage with the resource persons, seek clarification and apply the knowledge gained to improve the quality of research output at OGITECH.

Dr. Ezekiel Kadejo Ojo, Associate Professor of Industrial Mathematics and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, spoke on “Academic Paper Writing for Publication and Criteria for Promotion.”

He emphasised the need for lecturers to produce well-structured, relevant and high-quality academic papers while maintaining transparency and integrity throughout the research process.

Also speaking, Barrister Timothy Oluwalogbon Ogunseye, Chief Lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, addressed participants on “Criteria for the Promotion of Academic Staff in the Polytechnic System.”

Ogunseye highlighted the importance of understanding and meeting the requirements for academic promotion, describing professional advancement as an important component of career development within the polytechnic system.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Workshop Organising Committee and Dean of the School of Part-Time Studies, Dr. Sewanu Bankole, appreciated the invited dignitaries and resource persons for their contributions to the success of the programme.

He encouraged participants to make practical use of the knowledge gained from the workshop to improve their academic writing, research and publication.

The workshop was attended by Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and other teaching staff of the institution.
