OGITECH Rector Charges Student Union Executives on Proactive Leadership, Student Welfare

The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, has charged the newly inaugurated Student Union Executive, led by Comrade Ajibola Toheeb, to remain proactive, responsible and committed to the welfare of the entire student population.

Dr. Oluseye gave the charge on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Institute’s Conference Room when the newly inaugurated Student Union Executive paid its first official visit to him.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the Student Union to congratulate the Rector on the third anniversary of his administration.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Oluseye urged the student leaders to prioritise the welfare, safety and general interests of students, stressing the importance of responsible representation and constructive engagement with the Institute’s management.

He encouraged the Union to maintain open communication with management and approach issues affecting students with maturity, dialogue and a solution-oriented mindset.

The Rector also reminded the executives that their primary responsibility remained their academic pursuits, urging them not to allow their duties as student leaders to distract them from their studies.

Earlier, the President of the Student Union, Comrade Ajibola Toheeb, congratulated Dr. Oluseye on his third year in office and appreciated the management for its efforts towards improving the welfare and learning environment of students.

Comrade Ajibola also highlighted some of the issues affecting the student community and presented suggestions on how the Student Union and management could collaborate to address them and create a better environment for students.

On security, Dr. Oluseye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of students within the Institute.

He disclosed that management would continue to explore measures to strengthen security on campus and ensure the safety of students within the surrounding community through collaboration with relevant security agencies, authorities and other stakeholders.

The Rector emphasised that the safety and wellbeing of students remained a collective responsibility. He therefore called on the Student Union to play its part by sensitising students on responsible conduct and supporting measures aimed at maintaining peace and security.

The meeting was attended by the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Aminu Sulaiman Olaitan, and the Sub-Deans of Student Affairs.
