Opay Signs ₦60 Million MoU to Sponsor 20 LASU Students Over 10 Years

The initiative, facilitated under the auspices of LASU-SDG in collaboration with the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), was officially launched during a signing ceremony held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The long-term sponsorship highlights Opay’s commitment to education, innovation, and youth development in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Director of LASU-SDG, Professor Tayo Ajayi, commended the partnership, noting that it aligns with the University’s mission to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through strategic collaborations.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, expressed appreciation to Opay for the gesture, describing the initiative as a significant boost to the academic and financial welfare of LASU students. She lauded Opay’s corporate social responsibility efforts, emphasizing that the scholarship would go a long way in fostering excellence and reducing financial pressure on students.

The Chief Executive Officer of Opay Digital Services Limited, Elizabeth Wang, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to supporting education and empowering young Nigerians. She explained that the scholarship scheme, which began in 2018, is part of Opay’s broader vision to promote financial inclusion and social development through technology.
Wang announced that twenty (20) LASU students would benefit from the scholarship annually for the next ten (10) years. She further revealed plans to offer internship and employment opportunities to LASU students, adding that Opay currently employs over 5,000 staff across Nigeria.
The Director of Legal Affairs, Mrs. O. O. Boyejo, presented a summary of the MoU, detailing the objectives, scope, and beneficiary selection criteria, as well as provisions for data protection and confidentiality to guide the partnership.
The MoU was officially signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and the CEO of Opay Digital Services Limited, Elizabeth Wang, alongside the University Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu. The ceremony was witnessed by top management staff, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors (Academics and Administration), Professors Oseni Taiwo Afisi and Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, Director of LASU-SDG, Professor Tayo Ajayi, Director of LASUDA, Professor Rafiu O. Okuneye, and Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan.

Other attendees included Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, and officials from the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, LASU-SDG, LASUDA, and the Legal Unit.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the University Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, who commended Opay for its vision and reaffirmed LASU’s readiness to sustain the partnership for the benefit of its students.
