Public Varsities Need N1m Fees for Financial Independence — Ex-LASU VC

Former Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has said public universities in Nigeria would need to charge up to N1 million in school fees to achieve financial independence.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello stated this in an interview reflecting on her tenure as Vice-Chancellor.

She explained that sustainable funding remains one of the biggest challenges confronting public universities, stressing that realistic tuition is key to ensuring quality, infrastructure development and institutional self-reliance.
