Redeemer’s University Inducts 89 New Physiotherapists, Charges Graduates on Professional Excellence

The induction took place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the University Auditorium during the fourth Induction Ceremony for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Class of 2026.
The ceremony marked the transition of the graduates from academic training into professional practice and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing competent, ethical and socially responsible healthcare professionals.
The keynote lecture, titled “Professionalism and Ethical Conduct in Physiotherapy,” was delivered by Professor Adesola Ojoawo, Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Professor Ojoawo identified competence as one of the fundamental pillars of professionalism and urged the newly inducted physiotherapists to commit themselves to continuous learning and professional development throughout their careers.
He also highlighted the importance of professional conduct, noting that professional behaviour could either create or limit opportunities for practitioners. He encouraged the graduates to conduct themselves in ways that would earn the trust and respect of colleagues, patients and the wider society.

The Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, who was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Chiagoziem Otuechere, congratulated the inductees and urged them to uphold the values of excellence and professionalism as they begin their careers.
“Behind every successful inductee is a story of sacrifice. I appreciate your confidence, commitment and aspiration to this profession. I pray you reap the fruit of your labour,” he said.
Professor Akindele also acknowledged the contributions of academic staff in the Department of Physiotherapy, whose teaching, mentoring and professional training supported the graduates throughout their academic journey.
The Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB), Professor Ahmad Rufai, also addressed the gathering as the 89 graduates formally joined the physiotherapy profession.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Dr Dayo Omotoso, expressed gratitude for the successful completion of the students’ academic journey and urged the inductees to remain guided by the training and professional ethics acquired at the university.
Earlier, the Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, Professor Rufus Adedoyin, described the occasion as a special day for the department as it welcomed another generation of physiotherapists into the profession.
Professor Adedoyin said the department had the facilities required to provide quality physiotherapy education, combining academic instruction with appropriate practical training.
He urged the new professionals to uphold the reputation of Redeemer’s University and the physiotherapy profession wherever they practise.
“You must be able to solve problems and contribute meaningfully to humanity,” he said.

The induction of the 89 graduates adds to Redeemer’s University’s record in health sciences education and highlights its continued emphasis on developing graduates with professional competence, character and ethical values for meaningful contributions to healthcare and society.
