Redeemer’s University, Ede, has celebrated another significant milestone in its contribution to healthcare education with the formal induction of 89 graduating students into the physiotherapy profession at its fourth Induction Ceremony for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Class of 2026.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the University Auditorium, marked the successful transition of the graduates from academic training into professional practice and further demonstrated the University’s commitment to producing competent, ethical and socially responsible healthcare professionals.

The keynote lecture, themed “Professionalism and Ethical Conduct in Physiotherapy,” was delivered by Professor Adesola Ojoawo, Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Professor Ojoawo identified competence as one of the fundamental pillars of professionalism, urging the newly inducted physiotherapists to embrace continuous learning and self-development throughout their careers.

He emphasised the far-reaching impact of professional conduct, noting that “professional behaviour could either open or close doors,” and encouraged the inductees to conduct themselves in ways that would earn the trust and respect of their colleagues, patients and the wider society.

The Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Chiagoziem Otuechere, congratulated the inductees and charged them to uphold the values of excellence and professionalism as they begin their careers.

“Behind every successful inductee is a story of sacrifice. I appreciate your confidence, commitment and aspiration to this profession. I pray you reap the fruit of your labour,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged the dedication and contributions of the academic staff of the Department of Physiotherapy, whose commitment to teaching, mentoring and professional training contributed to the successful journey of the graduates.

The Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB), Professor Ahmad Rufai, also addressed the gathering as the 89 graduates formally joined the physiotherapy profession, marking the completion of their academic preparation and the beginning of their professional careers.

Also speaking, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Dr Dayo Omotoso, expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the students’ academic journey and urged the inductees to remain guided by the training and professional ethics acquired during their time at the University.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, Professor Rufus Adedoyin, described the occasion as a special day of celebration for the department as it welcomed another generation of physiotherapists into the profession.

Professor Adedoyin affirmed that the department possesses the facilities required to deliver quality physiotherapy education and provide students with appropriate academic and practical training.

He charged the new professionals to uphold the reputation of the University and the physiotherapy profession wherever they find themselves.

“You must be able to solve problems and contribute meaningfully to humanity,” he said.

The induction of the 89 graduates adds to Redeemer’s University’s growing record of excellence in health sciences education, reinforcing its commitment to equipping graduates with the competence, character and professional values required to make meaningful contributions to healthcare and society.
