Shock and grief have hit the university community of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, following the sudden death of its newly inaugurated Vice Chancellor, Professor Carter Dike Umeoduagu.

The 44-year-old Professor of Microbiology was inaugurated as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the university on October 2, 2026, and was subsequently celebrated by his family, friends and associates.

However, just 24 hours after assuming office, Professor Umeoduagu reportedly took ill and d+ed on October 3, 2026.

The late academic was a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, where he represented Aguata 1 Constituency.

His sudden death came barely a day after he was formally installed as Vice Chancellor of the university, which has been facing a prolonged crisis. The cause of his sudden death had not been made public.
