UI Faculty of The Social Sciences Gets New Dean
Olajide Akanji is a Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan. He holds a Master of Science degree and PhD in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, and a Master of Arts degree in Conflict, Security and Development obtained from King’s College, London. He is a proud alumnus of the prestigious African Leadership Centre (ALC) at King’s College, London and Nairobi, Kenya.
His research interests are on conflict, security, and governance studies; African politics, and international relations; human rights, gender and sexuality studies; and public policy development and analysis.
Professor Akanji has received a number of research fellowships and grants, both locally and internationally. He is a Senior Fellow, Institute for Research and Policy Integration in Africa (IRPIA), Northern Illinois University, USA. He was a Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja, Nigeria, and Senior Research Associate of African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Johannesburg.

Professor Akanji has published widely in credible local and international academic outlets.
He has risen through the academic ranks, with notable contributions to the academia, also serving in various administrative roles before his election as Dean, Faculty of The Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, a position he assumed on 01 August, 2026.
