UNIABUJA Renews Security Commitment as FCT Police Commissioner Visits Campus

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja (now renamed Yakubu Gowon University), Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, hosted the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, for a high-level security consultation. 

The visit, part of a broader tour of tertiary institutions within the Federal Capital Territory, aimed to evaluate and fortify the university's internal security architecture. During the engagement, Prof. Fawehinmi stated that the collaboration would enable a "proactive approach" to campus safety, ensuring a protected environment for both research and learning.

CP Miller Dantawaye reaffirmed the FCT Police Command’s dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of the university community. Following the administrative discussions, the Commissioner conducted an on-site inspection of key security posts and perimeter deployments. 

Accompanying the Commissioner during the field inspection was the university’s Chief Safety Officer, Wing Commander Cerrone Doko Waziri (retd.), to assess strategic locations including the surrounding hills and campus perimeters.

Leadership Milestone

This security parley is one of the early major engagements for Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, who formally assumed duty as the 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor in December 2025. His five-year tenure was originally set to begin on February 10, 2026, but he assumed office early to oversee critical institutional transitions.
