UNILAG Management Celebrates Outstanding Sports Athletes

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Management hosted a special ceremony on Monday, September 1, 2025, to honor student-athletes who represented the university in national and international competitions with distinction.

The honored teams include:

Hockey Team

• Participants: 12 student-athletes and 2 coaches
• Event: 5-Aside Male and Female Hockey Championship, held from July 18 – 25, 2025 at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State
• Medals: Female team – Gold; Male team – Silver

Beach Soccer Team

• Participants: 11 student-athletes and 2 coaches
• Event: Lagos State Higher Institution Beach Soccer Competition (Male), July 26, 2025, Atican Beach, Lekki, Lagos State
• Medal & Prize: Bronze medal and N100,000

FISU Games Team

• Participants: 2 Judokas (1 male, 1 female) and 1 female badminton athlete
• Event: FISU Games 2025, July 16 – 26, 2025, Rhine-Ruhr, Germany
• Qualification: Earned their spots by defeating competitors at the Nigeria University Games (NUGA) trials at University of Jos, April 6 – 12, 2025

Vice-Chancellor’s Remarks and Medal Decoration
In her address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola commended the athletes for their dedication and for serving as proud ambassadors of UNILAG. She also praised the coaching staff and Chairman of UNILAG Sports Council, Professor Alabi Shoneye, for their leadership and guidance.

Professor Ogunsola encouraged the athletes to maintain their pursuit of excellence both in sports and in academics. She personally decorated the athletes with their medals, and in a gesture of appreciation, the teams presented jerseys to the Vice-Chancellor, expressing gratitude for her continuous support.
