Five outstanding 300-level students of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Lagos (UNILAG), have been awarded the prestigious Funmi Babington-Ashaye (FBA) Foundation Scholarships

UNILAG Students Awarded Funmi Babington-Ashaye Foundation Scholarships

Five outstanding 300-level students of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Lagos (UNILAG), have been awarded the prestigious Funmi Babington-Ashaye (FBA) Foundation Scholarships.

The awardees are:

  • Adeyoola Oluwadamilola Adetoro
  • Adekunle Deborah Motunrayo
  • Adeleye Oluwatoyin Mercy
  • Adebowale Adeleke Oluwadamilare
  • Olufemi Adeboro Godwin

The awards ceremony, held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the UNILAG Office of Advancement, celebrated the students’ academic excellence and commitment to distinction.

The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Abdul-Hameed Adeola Sulaimon, who chaired the event, commended the recipients and lauded Dr. (Mrs.) Funmi Babington-Ashaye and her family for their continuous investment in education. He noted that the Foundation’s scholarship scheme, sustained for over five years, has inspired students of the faculty to strive for greater achievement. He further expressed hope that the partnership would grow to include support for faculty development and infrastructure.

Representing Dr. (Mrs.) Babington-Ashaye, the General Manager of Risk Analyst Insurance Brokers Limited, Mr. Sunday Oyeniyi, congratulated the awardees and charged them to see the recognition as motivation to aim higher. He urged them to remain disciplined, resilient, and committed to excellence, reminding them that Dr. Babington-Ashaye herself was once a student of insurance who rose to become a prominent force in the industry.

Mr. Oyeniyi and Professor Sulaimon presented the awards to the recipients in the presence of senior faculty and management members

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Adekunle Deborah Motunrayo expressed gratitude to the Foundation, pledging that the awardees would maximize the opportunity and make both UNILAG and the Foundation proud.

The Director, Office of Advancement, Dr. Taiwo F. Ipaye, also appreciated the Foundation for its consistent support, noting that the scholarship has become a beacon of encouragement for students. She urged the awardees to embrace the spirit of giving back in the future, citing the Office of Advancement’s motto: “When you give back to the school that shaped you, you plant seeds for those who come after you.”

The event concluded with a token of appreciation presented to the Foundation’s representatives, Mr. Oyeniyi and Ms. Kehinde Adeyeye, alongside group photographs.
