UNILAG to Host Stakeholders Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance in Aquaculture

 Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research Team of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is set to hold a pivotal Stakeholders Meeting focused on "Antimicrobial Resistance in Aquaculture" on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The event, scheduled to commence at 10 a.m., will be held at the Faculty of Science Boardroom on the UNILAG campus.

Organized under the leadership of Dr. Bamidele Odumosu from UNILAG’s Department of Microbiology, the meeting is one of the activities marking World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW). The event is supported by the Microbiology Society, UK, as part of an effort to address the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the aquaculture sector.

The Stakeholders Meeting will bring together experts, policymakers, and industry practitioners to discuss strategies for managing AMR in aquaculture, a sector increasingly affected by the global rise in antibiotic-resistant organisms. Participants will explore effective measures to curb the misuse of antibiotics and improve practices within aquaculture to safeguard public health and environmental sustainability.
