UNIMED Gets Major Funding Boost as Ondo Government Increases Subvention by 60%
University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for increasing the institution’s subvention by 60 per cent and approving the implementation of the 2026 Federal Government/university unions agreements.

UNIMED Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe commends Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over a 60% increase in Ondo State subvention and approval of the 2026 FG-university unions agreements.
Prof Adejuyigbe described the development as a significant demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to strengthening tertiary education and advancing medical science education in Ondo State.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the increased funding will provide the university with greater capacity to improve teaching and learning facilities, support academic programmes, strengthen laboratories and enhance the training of medical, health and allied professionals.
She noted that improved funding would also create a more conducive environment for research and innovation, enabling staff and students to undertake impactful studies that address critical health challenges and contribute to the development of the healthcare system in Nigeria.
Prof Adejuyigbe further stated that the implementation of the agreements with university unions would boost staff morale, enhance job satisfaction and strengthen commitment among academic and non-academic staff.
“We deeply appreciate the Governor’s unquantifiable support for the continued growth and development of the University of Medical Sciences. His commitment is evident not only in the increased subvention but also in his willingness to support policies that promote staff welfare and institutional development,” she said.
She added that the interventions would further position UNIMED as a leading centre for excellence in medical education, cutting-edge research and innovation, assuring that the university would reciprocate the government’s support by doing more in teaching, research, community service and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that the sustained partnership between the state government and UNIMED would yield greater achievements and further strengthen the university’s contributions to healthcare development and human capital development in Ondo State and beyond.
