The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Port Harcourt, Mao Ohunabonwa, has called for deliberate and strategic reforms aimed at strengthening the university’s global visibility through innovation, digital transformation, and institutional partnerships.

He made the call during an ongoing Council Retreat themed “Positioning the University of Port Harcourt for Global Visibility through Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship Development and Strategic Partnerships.”

Speaking at the retreat, Mao Ohunabonwa stressed that digital transformation is now central to modern higher education, noting its impact on academic delivery, administrative efficiency, and institutional competitiveness.

He stated that universities seeking relevance in the 21st century must move beyond traditional systems and fully embrace technology-driven solutions that enhance both teaching and governance structures.
