He made the call during an ongoing Council Retreat themed “Positioning the University of Port Harcourt for Global Visibility through Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship Development and Strategic Partnerships.”
Speaking at the retreat, Mao Ohunabonwa stressed that digital transformation is now central to modern higher education, noting its impact on academic delivery, administrative efficiency, and institutional competitiveness.
He stated that universities seeking relevance in the 21st century must move beyond traditional systems and fully embrace technology-driven solutions that enhance both teaching and governance structures.
The Pro-Chancellor also underscored the importance of entrepreneurship development and strategic partnerships as key drivers for sustainable institutional growth and international recognition.

The retreat brought together key stakeholders of the university and is expected to produce actionable strategies and policy frameworks aimed at repositioning the institution for stronger global relevance and long-term academic and administrative advancement.
