UNIPORT VC Receives Airtel Regional Team, Pledges Support for Improved Digital Connectivity

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Chike Princewill, on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, received a delegation from the Airtel Regional Team, Port Harcourt, on a courtesy visit to his office.  

The delegation was led by the Director of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, Prof. Mary Pascal Iwundu. The visit was to formally acquaint the Vice-Chancellor with the directives of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.  

Speaking on behalf of the Airtel Regional Team, Dr. Mathew Michael expressed the organisation’s willingness to establish a strong working relationship with the University. He stated that Airtel was readily available to partner with the institution, particularly in providing effective and reliable network services to support communication and digital connectivity within the University community.  

Dr. Michael further noted that the proposed collaboration would explore opportunities for partnership in delivering services in line with the objectives and initiatives of the NCC, aimed at enhancing access to efficient internet and communication services.  

According to him, improved digital connectivity remains critical to advancing teaching, learning, research, administration, and other services in a modern university environment. He expressed the team’s readiness to work closely with the University of Port Harcourt to explore areas of mutual benefit that would enhance internet access and communication infrastructure.  

In his response, Prof. Princewill reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives and partnerships that would enhance effective service delivery across the University. He noted the importance of technology and reliable communication infrastructure in driving institutional efficiency and achieving the University’s broader objectives in an increasingly digital world.  

The Vice-Chancellor assured the delegation of the University’s willingness to engage with relevant partners in areas that would contribute to improved connectivity, innovation, and the overall advancement of the institution.  

The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to explore prospects for collaboration geared towards strengthening internet and communication services and supporting the University’s digital transformation agenda.
