NUC Accreditation Teams Commend FUGA's Green Code, Academic Reforms
The National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation teams for English and Library and Information Science programmes have commended the Federal University Gashua (FUGA) for its Green Code initiative and ongoing efforts to improve academic infrastructure and teaching facilities.
The commendation came during the teams' accreditation visit to the university, where they assessed academic programmes, facilities and the institution's compliance with NUC requirements.
Speaking during the visit, the leader of the Library and Information Science team, Professor Mansur Usman Malumfashi, described the Green Code initiative as a commendable effort towards promoting environmental sustainability and creating a healthier academic environment.
He also praised the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, for facilitating the introduction of 11 new academic programmes within eight months of assuming office, describing him as a visionary and focused administrator.
He expressed optimism that the university would record greater achievements under his leadership.
Malumfashi said the accreditation exercise was designed to assess the university's academic activities, identify areas of strength and weakness, and make recommendations to improve the quality of its programmes.

Similarly, the leader of the English programme team, Professor Simon Etine Abochol, commended the university for providing a functional language laboratory, describing it as an essential facility for the teaching and learning of English.
He also acknowledged the institution's updated library resources, dedicated classrooms and conducive learning environment.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geidam, said the FUGA Green Code, launched on August 15, 2026, under the theme "One Student, One Tree, One Greener Future," was designed to promote tree planting, environmental awareness and active participation in conservation among students and staff.
He thanked the accreditation teams for acknowledging the reforms and initiatives of the present administration, assuring them that the university would carefully consider and implement their observations and recommendations to address identified gaps and strengthen academic standards.
