University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital Names Medical ICT Institute After President Tinubu
The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State has unveiled a newly constructed Medical ICT Institute, naming it after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The institute, christened "Bola Ahmed Tinubu Medical ICT Institute," is the first of its kind in Nigeria and aims to enhance healthcare capacity and develop skills among practitioners.
The unveiling ceremony took place on July 29, 2025, during the 110th general meeting of Chief Medical Directors in Maiduguri. The event brought together top government officials, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders in the health sector.
The Medical ICT Institute is designed to integrate information and communication technology into healthcare delivery, marking a significant step forward in Nigeria's healthcare system. According to the hospital's Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, the institute will boost medical innovation, training, and service delivery.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized that healthcare is a top priority in President Tinubu's administration. He noted that the President's commitment to healthcare has led to significant developments in the sector, including the construction of new facilities and infrastructure .
The hospital has also completed eight other projects, including health facilities, roads, and infrastructure, named after stakeholders who have contributed to the hospital's growth. These projects demonstrate the hospital's commitment to improving healthcare delivery and infrastructure .
