UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor Carol Arinze-Umobi Scores High in Stakeholders’ Poll

Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, has received a strong performance rating in a recent opinion poll conducted on the institution’s official Facebook page.

The poll, held on September 19, 2025, invited students, staff, and alumni to assess her leadership across three categories: “Very Good,” “Good,” and “Poor.” Out of 1,252 total responses recorded within 48 hours, 78% (977 votes) rated her performance “Very Good,” 15% (188 votes) chose “Good,” while 6% (86 votes) described it as “Poor.”

Arinze-Umobi assumed office on May 19, 2025, with a vision she tagged “Feeling the Pulse of Students, Staff, and Finding Solutions.” Since then, her administration has launched several initiatives aimed at improving campus life and infrastructure. These include solar-powered boreholes, campus-wide internet access, solar streetlights in Awka and Mbakwu, and the construction of new access roads at the Okofia campus.

The outcomes of the poll suggest broad approval of her leadership style and projects so far, though a minority of respondents remain critical. Observers note that her focus on practical, student-centred improvements has contributed to the favourable ratings.

As her tenure continues, stakeholders will be watching how effectively she sustains these efforts and whether her initiatives translate into longer-term institutional gains for Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
