Yobe State Government Moves to Bolster Renal Care with New Nephrology Nursing Programme

In a strategic move to address the rising challenges of kidney disease, the Yobe State Government has officially inaugurated a Technical Committee for the establishment of a Post-Basic Nephrology Nursing Programme at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences, Damaturu.

The inauguration ceremony, held today, Friday, December 19, 2025, at the EOC Conference Room, was presided over by the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Mohammed Lawan Gana.

The initiative is designed to produce a specialized workforce capable of managing dialysis, renal transplantation, and holistic patient education. Prof. Gana emphasized that the programme is a direct response to a critical public health need, stating, “Your work will translate into hope, care, and prolonged life for countless citizens battling renal challenges.”
