Abdulkadir Kure University Hosts Strategic Climate Action Engagement for Niger LGAs
Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna hosted a strategic stakeholders’ engagement on the Review and Validation of the Draft Climate Change Strategic Action Plan for Local Government Areas in Niger State. The programme was organised by the Women Environmental Programme (WEP) in collaboration with the Niger State Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Community Development and Climate Care, and Abdulkadir Kure University.
The engagement brought together Climate Change Desk Officers representing all the 25 Local Government Areas of Niger State, alongside key stakeholders and development partners, to deliberate on practical and sustainable strategies for addressing climate-related challenges at the grassroots level.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University, Prof. Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, the Director of ICT, Umar Ramadan Zakari, welcomed participants and collaborators, emphasizing the urgent need for practical and inclusive climate action strategies across local communities. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, youth empowerment, and community impact through its Greentech and Entrepreneurship Hub.

The event also featured goodwill messages from key stakeholders, including representatives of the Niger State Ministries, Women Environmental Programme (WEP), ALGON, and Community Development and Climate Care, all of whom stressed the importance of collective action in tackling climate change challenges such as flooding, drought, erosion, and environmental degradation across Niger State.
The engagement concluded with renewed commitment from stakeholders towards the successful implementation of community-based climate action plans aimed at building resilient, environmentally sustainable, and climate-smart communities throughout Niger State.
