UNIMAID Partners with NSE Ahead of Historic 2026 International Engineering Conference

The Borno State Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has sought the partnership and support of the University of Maiduguri ahead of the 2026 International Engineering Conference, Exhibition, and Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The request was made during a courtesy visit to the university management on Thursday, May 21st, 2026, by an NSE delegation led by the Branch Chairman, Engr. M.B. Shattima.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Shattima disclosed that the NSE National Council had granted Borno State the hosting rights for the prestigious 2026 conference, marking the first time the state will host the national event since 1998.

He then, appealed to the university management for collaboration, particularly in the areas of accommodation, provision of event venues, and support for the registration of staff and students.

Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration), Professor Babagana Bako, reaffirmed university's commitment to supporting professional bodies, describing them as key custodians of professional excellence and standards.

Professor Bako further assured the NSE of the university’s readiness to partner towards a successful hosting of the conference. He noted that the institution is home to many respected and registered engineers, adding that the university management would encourage both staff and students to actively participate in the forthcoming international event.
