MAU Yola Career Service Centre Hosts Train-the-Trainer Workshop on Employability Skills

The Career Service Centre of Modibbo Adama University Yola, has organised a two-day Train-the-Trainer Workshop on Career Development and Employability Skills, drawing a distinguished gathering of academics, administrators, and professionals from within and beyond the institution.

The workshop which was held at the College of Medical Sciences Lecture Theatre Complex Modibbo Adama University, Yola centred on the theme: "Understanding Job Market Trends, Career Development and Employability Skills” a subject widely regarded as critical to bridging the gap between university education and the demands of today's labour market.

In his welcome address, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Shehu Iya appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support towards the centre and for consistently providing an enabling environment for programmes of this nature to thrive.

Additionally, Prof. Iya stated that, the centre will collaborate with the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance to introduce a zero-unit course on Career Development, in order to prepare undergraduate students for the future. 

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Umar, described the initiative as timely, stressing the urgent need for academics and graduates alike to align themselves with technological advancements in an increasingly digital world. 

He charged all participants to be technologically inclined, noting that the future of work would leave no room for those unwilling to adapt.

Four distinguished scholars delivered papers on targeted sub-themes. Prof. Isaac Ediba, Dean of Students, Gombe State University, was the Lead Presenter. He set the tone with an in-depth exploration of skills acquisition and development in contemporary times. 

Prof. A.U. Alkali, Deputy Director, Centre for Distance Learning, Modibbo Adama University discussed on Networking, mentorship, career opportunities and self-assessment. 

Dr. Hussaini Momoh Lawan, HOD General Education Department from American University of Nigeria, Yola made his presentation on innovative strategies for improving graduate employability.

Prof. A.T. Umar, Head of Department of Economics at MAU, Yola rounded off the academic sessions with a comprehensive analysis of job market trends. 

Giving the vote of thanks, the Director of the Career Service Centre, Prof. Shehu Iya, expressed his appreciation for the presenters for their insightful contributions and thanked all participants for gracing the occasion.

The workshop, facilitated by Concepts Consults and Research Services Limited, was well attended by the principal officers of the university, professors, and several dignitaries.
