ABU Introduces Flexible Tuition Payment Plan for Newly Admitted Postgraduate Students
The Postgraduate College of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has officially approved the introduction of a Flexible Tuition Fee Payment Platform for newly admitted academic postgraduate students.
Announced in a special university bulletin (Volume 18, No. 42) dated Friday, May 15, 2026, the milestone initiative is designed to cushion current economic realities and support students who face challenges with making lump-sum tuition payments at the start of their programs.
The new arrangement allows eligible, newly admitted Master’s and PhD scholars to space out their financial obligations across the academic session. The operational guidelines specify a three-tiered instalment structure:
Students must pay an initial 50% of their approved tuition fees upon admission. This step activates their portal for first-semester course registration and grants full access to lectures and academic resources.
A cumulative minimum payment of 80% of the total tuition fee must be settled before the student can register for second-semester courses.

Final Settlement (100%): Full payment (100%) of the tuition fees must be cleared before the end of the second semester. Completion of this final tranche qualifies the student to print their official examination cards and participate in the second-semester examinations.
The university management clarified that participation in this flexible plan is strictly optional. Students who prefer the traditional billing cycle can still pay their fees in full at the beginning of the academic session.
Furthermore, the university emphasized that the concession currently applies only to Academic Postgraduate Programmes (Academic Master's and PhD degrees). Professional postgraduate certificates and diplomas are explicitly excluded from the scheme at this stage.

To enroll in the flexible plan, interested students must log onto the official university portal and formally accept a Flexible Tuition Fee Payment Agreement. This digital contract outlines the specific timelines, terms, and financial obligations associated with the instalment plan.
The ABU management stated that this initiative is expected to boost postgraduate enrollment, lower drop-out rates driven by financial distress, and maintain the institution's commitment to widening access to high-quality advanced education.
For further details or clarification regarding the payment platform, prospective students can contact the Postgraduate College Call Centre via the official helpline numbers listed on the university's corporate directory between 10:00am and 3:00pm on weekdays.
