ABU Signs 10-Year Agreement with Japanese Varsity for Academic Cooperation
Ahmadu Bello University has signed a 10-year agreement with Yamaguchi University, Japan, for the development of academic and educational cooperation and promotion of mutual understanding.
The pact was concluded in Japan on Monday, October 6, 2026, when the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, and the President of Yamaguchi University, Dr. Tanizawa Yukio, signed the deal.
The agreement is valid for a period of 10 years from the date of signature and may be renewed after review and renegotiation by both parties.
Both universities agreed to develop collaborative activities in academic areas of mutual interest on the basis of equality and reciprocity.

According to the agreement, such collaborative activities will centre on exchange of faculty members, researchers and administrative staff.
They also include exchange of students, collaborative research projects, lectures and symposia, exchange of academic information and materials, as well as promotion of other academic cooperation.
The development and implementation of specific activities based on the agreement will be separately negotiated and agreed upon between the faculties, schools or institutes responsible for carrying out the specific activities.
The pact also provides that where opportunities arise, both institutions shall leverage their respective competitive advantages to provide mutual support or collaborate on grant acquisition initiatives to foster the partnership.
